Rocky Hill Rabbits

Processing rabbits to eat is a pretty simple process but it can be daunting until you've done it a few times.  If you are doing a necropsy to try to determine cause of death, the steps may be different as you won't need to completely dress it out unless you want to preserve the pelt.

In this video my husband explains the steps as he processes one of our rabbits. 

Our method of dispatch is a .22 pistol. There are other methods such as the broomstick method where you put the rabbit's neck under a broom handle, shovel handle, or other straight bar and you grab the back legs and lift until the neck breaks. With this method, there is usually much more bruising in the shoulders.

We prefer the bullet because it takes one shot, it's instant, and in our opinion, the most humane method.
